Diospyros v. 'Magic Fountain' #7

The 'Magic Fountain' variety of Diospyros (Persimmon)  is known for its weeping, columnar habit and its compact size, making it perfect for smaller gardens or even container planting. It produces an abundance of delicate white flowers that bloom in the spring that are followed by plum sized, deliciously sweet, golden yellow fruits. The fruit's smooth, slick feel and flavor resemble a delightful blend of a mango and a roasted sweet pepper, tinged with hints of cinnamon and dates. A ripe persimmon offers a richness that's both tangy and sweet simultaneously. One must experience the flavor in order to truly understand just how delightful it is. Wait until as late as possible to pick the fruits in the fall for optimum flavor. 'Magic Fountain' is self-fertile, but planting more than one will increase the number of flowers that get pollinated, which increases the size of its crop. If you plant one, you will attract nighttime pollinators, such as moths, that will help with the pollination efforts. Persimmon can tolerate various soil conditions, making it adaptable to different environments. It is considered disease resistant and low-maintenance. Grows 12-15' tall and 4' wide in full sun to part shade and is hardy to Zone 5.
