Astrantia 'Star of Fire' #1

Long lasting burgundy red flowers with white centers are held above the foliage on this variety of Masterwort. The flowers look like pincushions, and the plant has been known as Hattie's Pincushion plant. 'Star of Fire' is prized for fresh or dried floral arrangements. Picking the flowers results in even more blooms. Flowers left on turn into attractive bracts. Flowers are around 2' tall on this vigorous grower. It does not reseed, but will widen somewhat each year. Grows best in partial shade. Likes regular moisture. Hardy to Zone 4.

If the foliage declines during a hot summer, cut back to new growth at the base. Leave basal growth for the winter.
