Distinctive branching gives this small garden tree a strong, formal look, and good heat tolerance keeps its red foliage red from spring through summer. In fall, leaves turn reddish green first, before brightening to a cherry red as the season progresses. Broadens with maturity to develop a rounded silhouette, which provides good winter interest, especially combined with bark that has distinctive silver striations. Grows to 15' tall and 12' wide in full sun to partial shade and is hardy to Zone 5. Best in afternoon shade where summers are hot and dry.
