This Japanese Umbrella Pine displays whorls of needles that resemble spokes of an umbrella. It retains dark, glossy green foliage through winter. Prefers rich, acidic, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Here in northern Illinois, it is best planted in a protected site. Garden size is 20' tall and 15' wide. Hardy to Zone 5.
