Asimina triloba 'Wells' GRAFT #3

Delectably fruity, banana-like flavored fruit with creamy-custard, orange flesh. Unique dark-purple flowers in spring and tropical-looking foliage through fall makes it hard to believe this tree has native roots.  Paw paw trees prefer partial shade, but a warm, sunny location is ideal for ripening fruit in cooler regions.. Ripens in September.  Careful thinning can increase fruit size. Cross-pollination is needed to grow fruit. This can be achieved by planting a different variety nearby, 10-15' away for best results. These trees can handle full sun, but they benefit from afternoon shade, especially in the first two years. If they are planted in full sun, be sure to stay on top of watering during the first two seasons. Grafted Paw Paws grow approximately 15-20 ft. tall and wide, but you can keep them at a more manageable size by heading the trees at 8-10' and removing suckers. Hardy to Zone 4.
