Aconitum fischeri

Aconitum fischeri, commonly called Azure Monkshood, produces upright spikes of lavender‑blue, helmet‑shaped flowers from late summer into fall, adding rich color when many other perennials are fading. Its deep green, deeply cut glossy foliage provides texture even before bloom, and the strong stems typically don’t need staking. This plant prefers full sun to partial shade with moist, well‑drained soil and is deer and rabbit resistant thanks to its highly toxic foliage — all parts of the plant should be handled with care. While it attracts bees and butterflies, its toxicity means it’s best placed where pets and children won’t interact with it.
