Cornus alternifolia

Pagoda Dogwood

Pagoda Dogwood is a graceful native understory tree prized for its elegant, tiered branching and refined woodland character. In late spring, flat-topped clusters of creamy white flowers appear, followed by blue-black berries in summer that are eagerly taken by birds. Clean green foliage forms a soft, layered canopy through summer before turning red to purple in fall. Naturally found along woodland edges and in rich forests, this Illinois native performs best in part shade to shade with moist, well-drained soils. Its architectural form makes it an excellent specimen for woodland gardens, naturalized plantings, and shaded landscapes where subtle beauty is appreciated.
