#20

Dawn Redwood is a deciduous, hardier tree than its Sequoia cousin. It develops a handsome, conical habit with horizontal branching and reddish brown bark that peels and flakes, giving the trunk an ancient look as it matures. The feathery foliage is light green in spring, darker in summer, and peach-bronze in fall. Good in full sun to part shade. Garden size is listed at 25' tall and 15' wide, but it can eventually reach 50' or more. Hardy to Zone 5.

Once thought extinct, this plant was discovered in a hidden valley in China in 1945.
