This Wintergreen has glossy, deep green leaves with a leathery feel and strong fragrance. Small, pale pink, bell-shaped flowers appear in late spring, followed by red berries. The berries, as well as, a reddish-purple cast to the leaves provide winter interest. Wildlife love the berries! Space approximately 1ft apart for a 6-inch tall, spreading groundcover. Wintergreen prefers shady areas and is hardy to Zone 3.
