Narrower in form and reputed to be more heat tolerant than Bloodgood, its foliage maintains its rich, dark red color through the heat of summer before turning bright scarlet red in autumn. Late to leaf out in spring, it’s a good choice where late frosts may damage tender spring foliage. Best in part shade, where it can grow to 18' tall and 16' wide. Hardy to Zone 5.
