Cherokee BraveĀ® is a variety of flowering dogwood noted for its red flowers (actually bracts surrounding a tiny flower) with white centers, appearing in early to mid spring, overlapping with redbuds. The tree grows somewhat flat-topped, up to around 25' tall and 30' wide. Dark green leaves turn an attractive shade of red in the fall. Bright red fruits are bitter and inedible to humans, but are loved by birds. fruits mature in late summer to early fall and may persist until late in the year. Plant in full sun to part shade. It's probably best in some afternoon shade out of the winter winds. Hardy to Zone 5.
