Acer palmatum ‘Twombly’s Red Sentinel’ is a vigorous, upright, red tree that develops an unusually columnar habit allowing it to fit into a smaller space than forms with broad canopies. Leaves maintain their dramatic red color all season long, and after they drop, the branches continue the colorful display. They darken to a deep, warm red that stands out against the grays and whites of winter. Garden size is 20' tall and 15' wide. It can handle a lot of sun, but as with most Japanese maples, it is best grown in some afternoon shade. Hardy to Zone 5
