Pieris is a good slow-growing plant for woodland settings. It's an evergreen shrub with red new foliage that turns shiny green. New foliage can emerge throughout the summer. Large clusters of white flowers in early spring appear to weigh down the shrub as they cascade downward. Grows slowly up to 6-10' tall and wide. Best planted where it gets some protection from winter winds. Seems to be deer resistant. Remove dead flowers to prevent reseeding. Hardy to Zone 5.
