'Overleese' produces sizable fruit with a delightfully tropical taste. The custard-like, yellow-orange flesh has a creamy banana flavor. Delicious and packed with nutrients, the fruits can be enjoyed fresh or in desserts. A good pulp-to-seed ratio means that you will get to enjoy more of the wonderful fruit. Asimina triloba 'Overleese' was selected by W. B Ward in 1950 in Indiana and has become popular among home gardeners and commercial producers. Careful thinning can increase fruit size. Cross-pollination is needed to grow fruit. This can be achieved by planting a different variety nearby, 10-15' away for best results. These trees can handle full sun, but they benefit from afternoon shade, especially in the first two years. If they are planted in full sun, be sure to stay on top of watering during the first two seasons. Grafted Paw Paws grow approximately 15-20 ft. tall and wide, but you can keep them at a more manageable size by heading the trees at 8-10' and removing suckers. Hardy to Zone 5.
