Panicum ‘October Sky’ is an upright, clump-forming switchgrass known for its cool blue-green foliage and refined habit early in the season. Airy flower plumes with rosy purple seed heads appear in midsummer, giving the plant a taller, more architectural presence and adding movement to the garden. In fall, the foliage turns a golden yellow, extending interest well beyond flowering. It performs best in full sun and average to dry, well-drained soil, and once established it is heat tolerant, drought tolerant, and low maintenance. Generally ignored by deer and supportive of wildlife, ‘October Sky’ provides long-season texture, structure, and reliable performance with minimal care.
