Picea bicolor ‘Howell’s Dwarf’
A compact, striking spruce with distinctive bicolor needles — deep green on top and silvery-blue underneath — that add shimmer and seasonal interest to any landscape. ‘Howell’s Dwarf’ forms a low, spreading mound when young, maturing into a slightly pyramidal shape if a central leader is allowed, making it perfect for rock gardens, foundation beds, or as a standout accent. Its evergreen foliage provides year-round structure, and reddish-purple cones add subtle seasonal texture.

Why We Love It
We love ‘Howell’s Dwarf’ for its bold bicolor needles and natural, spreading habit. Three mature plants north of the wedding barn now form a charming, evergreen “hut” — a playful, lasting feature that’s been growing beautifully for over 30 years.
