Carmine Jewel Cherry
Prunus fruticosa × Prunus cerasus ‘Carmine Jewel’
Carmine Jewel Cherry is a cold‑hardy dwarf cherry that combines the best traits of bush cherries and sour cherries, offering both ornamental and edible appeal. In early to mid‑spring it bursts with clusters of white flowers, attracting bees and other pollinators, then sets dark red cherries by mid‑ to late summer that balance tart and sweet flavors, making them excellent for fresh eating, pies, preserves, juice, and wine‑making.
This compact, rounded bush thrives in full sun with well‑drained soil and is exceptionally cold hardy to Zone 2, making it a reliable choice for northern gardens. It is self‑fruitful, setting fruit without a companion tree, though yields may increase with another cherry nearby.
Use Carmine Jewel in edible landscapes, small orchards, hedgerows, or as a specimen where both spring blossoms and summer fruit can be enjoyed. Birds and small wildlife are also attracted to the fruit later in the season.
