If you’re looking to bottle up some sunshine for your garden, Agastache ‘Summerlong™ Lemon’ is your plant! This refreshing newcomer to the Summerlong™ series is a powerhouse of productivity, pumping out dense spikes of bright, citrus-yellow flowers from early summer all the way through the first hard frost. Unlike older varieties that can get a bit "see-through," this beauty maintains a tight, bushy, and compact growth habit, making it the perfect candidate for a prominent spot in a sunny perennial bed or a patio container.
The foliage is a soft, medium green with a fine, textured edge and carries that signature, mouth-watering scent of sweet anise and mint. Its form is sturdy and mounded, providing a cheerful, upright structure that doesn't flop under the weight of its many blooms. To keep this "lemon" from being a lemon, ensure it has a home in full sun with excellent drainage—it absolutely hates having "wet feet" in the winter. Once it's settled, it is a champion of the dry, hot days of August and requires very little supplemental water.
Wildlife & Unique Features: This plant is basically a high-energy snack bar for hummingbirds and goldfinches! The tubular flowers are perfectly shaped for long beaks, and you’ll find it’s a constant hub of activity for bees and butterflies as well. Because of its intense minty fragrance, deer and rabbits typically give it a wide berth. As a nativar, it brings the rugged reliability of American wildflowers to a more refined garden setting. If you leave the spent flower wands standing through winter, they provide lovely structural interest and a few extra seeds for hungry birds.
Why We Love It: > It is pure "garden joy" in a compact package! The color is so clean and bright it practically glows against the purple and blue tones of the summer garden. We love that it smells as good as it looks, and its "marathon bloomer" status means you get way more bang for your buck than with almost any other perennial.
