Carolina Silverbell is a graceful native understory tree prized for its elegant spring bloom and refined form. In mid to late spring, abundant white, bell-shaped flowers hang along the branches, creating a striking floral display and supporting early pollinators. Clean green foliage provides a soft, layered canopy through summer before turning yellow in fall. Smooth gray bark adds subtle winter interest, especially on younger trees. Best grown in sun to part shade with moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils, this Illinois-native tree is an excellent choice for woodland edges, naturalized landscapes, and as a flowering specimen.
We have three carolina silverbells on the property, and every spring their delicate, bell shaped blooms are something we always look forward to.
