Pacific Sunset® Maple is a refined hybrid developed by crossing Shantung maple (Acer truncatum) with Norway maple (Acer platanoides), combining the best traits of both parents — glossy dark green foliage, excellent fall color performance, and broad adaptability. In spring, subtle yellow-green flowers appear before the foliage, followed by typical maple samaras. The leaves maintain a rich green canopy through summer and transform to yellow-orange to bright red in fall, often coloring earlier and more vividly than similar cultivars. Valued for its adaptability, Pacific Sunset® thrives in full sun to part shade and performs well in a wide range of soils, including urban conditions. It exhibits good heat and drought tolerance once established and is a versatile choice for shade, street, and specimen plantings.
