Scarlet Letter® Oak is a narrowly columnar hybrid oak selected for its strong structure, adaptability, and striking fall color. A cross between white oak (Quercus alba) and English oak (Quercus robur), it combines the durability and refined branching of white oak with the upright form and urban tolerance of English oak. Glossy green, lobed leaves form a dense vertical canopy through summer before turning vivid scarlet red in fall. Spring flowers are inconspicuous but support pollinators, followed by small acorns that provide wildlife value. With a strong central leader and a tight footprint, Scarlet Letter® is well suited to narrow spaces, streetscapes, and formal plantings where traditional oaks would be too broad. Once established, it develops good drought tolerance and long-term durability in the landscape.
