Acer palmatum ‘Lileeane’s Jewel’
A stunning new introduction, ‘Lileeane’s Jewel’ showcases rare and vibrant variegation of pink and white layered over bright cherry red, heavily divided foliage. The finely cut leaves create an intricate texture, while the bold color pattern gives this cultivar exceptional garden presence from the moment it leafs out in spring.
As summer progresses, the foliage transitions to a green-red base accented by pink and white variegation, maintaining strong ornamental appeal. Notably, this selection has demonstrated impressive heat tolerance, performing well in the full sun conditions of Simpsonville, South Carolina without burn to its variegation. The variegation appears fairly stable, though because it is a newer introduction, heavy fertilization is not recommended. Any non-variegated reversions should be pruned out to preserve its striking coloration.
In fall, the display intensifies into rich crimson reds infused with hot pink highlights, extending the season with a dramatic finale. Reaching an estimated 10–12 feet in 15 years, ‘Lileeane’s Jewel’ forms a mid-sized upright specimen ideal for focal plantings, collectors’ gardens, or as a vibrant accent in mixed borders.
This rare Japanese maple was discovered as a chance seedling by Johnathon Savelich and named in honor of his daughter, Lileeane — a fitting tribute for such a distinctive and treasured cultivar.
Why We Love It: Bold pink-and-white variegation over cherry red foliage with strong heat tolerance — a collector-worthy introduction that truly lives up to its name.
