'Bloodgood' is generally considered the hardiest of the red Japanese maples. It forms a small, usually multi-stemmed, upright tree with dark purple-red leaves, turning scarlet in fall. Handles a lot of sun, but probably does best in a partially shaded location. Grows 15-20' tall and wide. Hardy to Zone 5.
