Syringa m. 'Palibin' #5

The dwarf Korean lilac becomes a profuse bloomer at an early age. Purple buds open to very fragrant lilac-lavender flowers in late May and early June. The foliage is somewhat red-tinged in the fall. The specimens planted around Rich's front porch have been there since 1978. We trim them back after flowering to shape and control height. And every eight years or so, we cut them back hard (with loppers), after which there is not a leaf on them. They flush back out in a couple of weeks and bloom perfectly the next spring. Untrimmed, it will grow 4-5' tall with a  spread of 4-6'. Hardy to Zone 3.
