This cultivar (a.k.a. 'Issai') from Japan was selected for its outstanding compact habit and early fruiting age. Delicate pink flowers in spring give way to beautiful lavender-purple berries produced along the stems in late summer. It grows 3-4' tall and wide in full sun to part shade. And it's deer resistant. It is hardy to Zone 5, and crown hardy to Zone 4. After a severe winter, if the plant had died off above ground, simply prune the plant to the ground, and it will explode into a full grown bush again that same year.
