This popular arborvitae is more commonly known as 'Emerald Green'. The word "smaragd" is a Dutch word meaning green gem. It is deservedly popular because of the narrow, uniform habit and glossy green color in summer and winter. Often used for hedging and screening. No trimming or pruning is necessary. Grows well is full sun to part shade. Garden size is 15' tall and 3' wide. Hardy to Zone 4.
