This has been trained to be a low and spread form of the popular 'Bloodgood' Japanese maple. 'Bloodgood' is generally considered the hardiest of the red Japanese maples. It forms a small, multi-stemmed, upright tree with dark purple-red leaves, turning scarlet in fall. Handles a lot of sun, but probably does best in a partially shaded location. Prune to maintain the low, spreading form if so desired. Hardy to Zone 5.
