In Zone 8-10, Bay Laurel can reach 40'+ tall and wide, but here in Zone 5, it is mostly grown in containers as an annual or as a houseplant. Its leaves can be used to flavor soups, stews, braises or to simply add some flavor to a batch of pasta or rice. It tolerates all soil types as long as they have good drainage. Its prefers full sun but will benefit from some shade when planted outside. Typically grows around 2' tall and 2' wide in one season, although it can become much larger if it's brought in each winter and allowed to grow. Hardy to Zone 8.
