Purple Hybrid Catalpa is a bold ornamental tree grown for its dramatic foliage and showy summer flowers. New leaves emerge a rich, deep purple in spring, gradually transitioning to green as the season progresses. In early summer, large panicles of white, orchid-like flowers marked with purple and yellow appear, creating a striking display and supporting pollinators. Long, slender seed pods follow and persist into winter, adding texture after leaf drop. Large, heart-shaped leaves turn yellow in fall. Vigorous and adaptable, this hybrid performs best in full sun and tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay and urban conditions. Once established, it shows good drought tolerance and is best used where its bold scale and character can be appreciated.
