Released by Kentucky State University 'Atwood' is heavy producing with an average of 150 fruits per tree. Also impressive is it’s medium size 1/4 – 1/2 lb+ fruit, equaling about one bushel of fruit per tree. Fruits have a creamy texture, and the yellow flesh has a sweet, tropical flavor. Good disease resistance. Like most paw paws, another variety is needed for cross pollination. Plant in part shade for protection of young plants. Fruits ripen in late September, and this tree is hardy to Zone 5.
